Why “Moving Quickly” Matters After 40, Even with Aches & Pains

If you’ve ever thought…

“I can’t do that anymore.”

…after seeing someone jump, move quickly, or do something athletic, you’re not alone.

A lot of women over 40 begin avoiding faster or more powerful movements because of:

  • Bad knees
  • Back pain
  • Fear of injury
  • Feeling “too old”
  • Or simply being out of shape

But here’s what most women don’t realize: One of the most important things you can train as you age is your ability to produce force quickly, also known as power.

And no… That does not mean burpees, or training like a 25-year-old athlete.

In fact, a 2019 study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that leg power was an even stronger predictor of longevity than aerobic fitness.

Why does that matter?

Because power is what helps you:

  • Catch yourself if you trip
  • Get up off the floor easier
  • Climb stairs confidently
  • React quicker
  • Maintain muscle as you age
  • Stay active and independent longer

The challenge is that after 40, most women stop training these qualities altogether.

And unfortunately… that’s when decline accelerates.

At Quench Training for Women, we specialize in helping women, over 40 safely rebuild strength, balance, mobility, and confidence, even if you haven’t exercised in years.

That means:

  • No giant group classes
  • No random workouts
  • No being pushed beyond your ability level
  • No feeling like you don’t belong

Everything is coached and adjusted to YOUR body.

For some people, “power training” simply starts with:

  • A controlled squat with a quicker stand up
  • Step-ups holding onto support
  • Medicine ball tosses
  • Light kettlebell movements
  • Faster walking drills
  • Low-impact reaction exercises

The goal isn’t to beat your body up. The goal is to help you stay capable enough to keep doing the things you love for years to come.
